Lock shield valves are required for isolating and draining expansion vessels. Sounds simple, but the types available on the market do not meet all customer requirements. Pneumatex has therefore developed its own lock shield valve DLV.

As part of the development work, the Pneumatex expansion vessels have also been optimised for the new valves. This can dramatically reduce the amount of assembly work required, and hugely increase the functionality for start-up and maintenance.

The lock shield valve DLV is being offered in sizes DN 15, DN 20 and DN 25. On Pneumatex vessels, this corresponds to a nominal volume of up to 800 litres. The DLV can be opened only with an Allen key, which is also supplied. It therefore meets the EN 12828 requirement for a safety device to prevent accidental closing.

The development work had three main goals:

Sufficient draining capacity

Commercially available lock shield valves have been quite rightly criticised for their poor draining capacity, particularly on expansion vessels greater than 80 litre. The DLV drain cock is sufficiently dimensioned and can be connected directly to a DN 15 drain hose.

Easy-to-assemble flat sealing connection

The DLV 20 and 25 have a flat sealing pipe union for direct connection to expansion vessels. Pneumatex vessels of 18 – 800 litres have been adapted accordingly for the flat sealing connections. They can, of course, also be fitted to other makes of vessel, provided the vessels have a similar G or R connection.

Factory integration with the system technology

Till now, the lock shield valves with additional drain cock for compressor and pump controlled systems have to be ordered and installed separately. In future, they will generally be integrated in Compresso and Transfero systems. This simplifies on-site assembly and ensures correct installation to professional standards.

The new lock shield valves DLV meet all the standards and customer requirements. Pneumatex is now hoping that in future all expansion vessels will be fitted with a standard isolating valve.
